Record-breaking sale: Junckers A/S secures large sports deal in Hong Kong

28/03/2023

After several years of intense negotiations, the deal has finally been sealed. Junckers A/S will be supplying 11,000 square meters of portable sports flooring for a new and super-modern sports area in Hong Kong. This is a sales record within the sports segment for the Danish flooring manufacturer with the deal expected to be worth over 8.5 million Danish kroner.

The Kai Tak Sports Park is planned to open in 2024, and the public construction will serve as a monument to civic pride and inspire the next generation of Hong Kong athletes. The sports park covers an area of 28 hectares and will include a park area, several stadiums, and a large and modern multi-purpose hall capable of hosting international top tournaments in sports such as badminton and basketball. This is where Junckers' portable sports flooring will be placed.

"Hong Kong is a special market for Junckers," says Nadiya Andersen, International Sales Manager at Junckers A/S.

"We have been represented there for 40 years, and during that time, we have managed to build a really good reputation. Junckers has revolutionized the way sports flooring is produced. We produce top-quality flooring that delivers in terms of athlete safety and performance, but at the same time, it is easy and quick to install."

New strategy with a focus on sports

In 2020, Junckers initiated its 2025 plan, where the sports segment has a key role. Here, Junckers can offer a complete sports package containing certified flooring, top-quality colours, and lacquers. This setup has led to a partnership with the International Basketball Federation, FIBA. The partnership means that last year's European Championship, this fall's World Cup, and next year's Olympics in basketball will all be played on Junckers' Pro Complete 44 - the top model in mobile sports flooring. This is the same flooring that has now been sold in a record deal to the Kai Tak Sports Park.

Junckers CEO Lars Gjødsbøl on the new strategy:

"We are on track with our 2025 plan, which aims to re-establish Junckers as a strong and profitable industrial company. This is due in part to our momentum in the sports segment, where we have grown annually by over 10% since the launch of the strategy, despite very difficult market conditions. Naturally, we are very pleased with this."
